Energiser: You Are a Star

Energiser: You Are a Star

Purpose

This is a great exercise for motivation and boosting morals especially after long training sessions. This activity is best placed in the middle of the training course due to its positive effects on delegates.

Delegates to recognise other’s contributions in the group.

What You Need

  • Star stickers

Setup

  • Give 3 stickers to each participant.
  • Explain that they have to give one sticker to a person in the session who they think have contributed to the training or supported others throughout the session.
  • Delegates should go up to their 3 chosen people, give them a sticker and explain the reason for choosing them as a star. For example, they can say:
    • “I saw you earlier helping Lisa with her assignment”.

Timing

Explaining the Exercise: 2 minutes.

Activity: 5 minutes

Hi there

I use similar exercises that ensure that 'everyone' gets positive feedback and it works really well on lots of different levels. It takes longer but it's worth it.

Each person takes it in turn to tell the person on their right one positive thing about their contribution to the workshop so far. This recognises the appreciation and positive impact of positive feedback and encourages more of the same. Then they give themselves a round of applause.

I also use it in a different way for teams who work together. Each person has a piece of paper. They write their own name at the top of the page then pass it on to the person on their left. This person writes a positive comment about the person's contribution to the day at the bottom of the page then folds the paper over what they have written. The next person does the same; it's a bit like secret messages at school ;o)

The papers goes round till everyone has written on everyone else's piece of paper. Then depending on the time and size of the group they either read the comments silently or out loud. The latter has quite an amazing effect upon people.

Hope this is useful and have fun with it.
Gail
