Energiser for Kids: Say a Similar Word

Energiser for Kids: Say a Similar Word

Purpose

This simple yet engaging energiser is suitable for all age groups but is ideal for 8 to 15 years old. This creative game can serve as a good energiser or even an icebreaker.

Objective

Participants to come up with words related to the chosen subject.

Setup

  • Ask the participants to sit in a circle.
  • Choose a topic for the energiser, for example: Playing
  • Choose one person randomly (you can use “Name in the hat” technique for this random selection)
  • Explain to the group that the chosen person is going to say a letter of alphabet and the person to his or her right has 2 seconds to come up with a word which starts with that letter of alphabet. The word has to be related to the chosen topic. For example, if the topic is “Playing” and the randomly chosen participant has picked letter T, then the person to his right can say the “Toy”.
  • If the participant came up with a related word in 2 seconds, he will pick another letter of alphabet and the game continues in the same way with the person on his or her right. If however, the person couldn’t come up with the right word in 2 seconds, he has to stand up and remain standing until someone else can’t come up with a related word.
  • Continue the game until all participants are standing or until a certain amount of time has passed depending on the time available.

Timing

Explaining the Test: 5 minutes.

Activity: Flexible
