Creativity Exercise: Stylish Logos

This is a feel-good training exercise that gets everyone involved in a creative activity. In this exercise, delegates get to create a variety of illustrations or produce crafts which resemble the logo of their company.

The creative effort is a useful team building activity that brings people closer together by working on something similar and by having a common light-hearted objective. It also makes staff feel warmer towards the company through association by working on the logo.

The results of delegates efforts will be a series of artwork produced in various styles and with different materials all resembling the logo of the company. The logos can then be then displayed in the foyer of the company where customers and visitors can observe them. It could signal that the company is a fun place to work in and that staff care about the company and are happy to be there.

This exercise is ideal for delegates who are from the same company.

Objective

Make a representation of the company logo in any way you like.

• Papers (A4, A3 and A2)
• Art supplies for crafts (optional)
  • Scissors

Setup

• Explain to delegates that the objective of this exercise is to make a representation of the logo of their company.
• Make the art supplies available to everyone.
• Here is what delegates need to consider:
  • The objective is not to make a direct replica of the logo. Instead, draw or make something that has the elements of the logo in it but can also have other visual elements or symbolic content.
  • You can draw the logo or you can make it out of the supplies provided. This is optional. You can ask delegates just to draw rather than make something and only provide drawing materials.
• Explain that the end result might be shown as a collection to the rest of the company and customers, so they should aim to produce fun and quality content.
• You have an option to get each individual produce one logo. This is the ideal choice as there will be fewer disputes on artistic decisions. You can however group people together in case of too many participants or too few supplies.
• It is important for people to have fun while going through this exercise as the main aim is team building. If some people are very reluctant to participate or don’t feel artistic enough, pair them with those who feel enthusiastic about the exercise.
• During the exercise, encourage people to share their ideas together and talk to each other. They can even borrow ideas and get inspired by looking at other people’s approach.
• There is no right or wrong answer at the end and no one’s work should be dismissed or ridiculed.
• Allocate 30 minutes for this exercise, though you can extend this as needed.
• After the allocated time, ask everyone to place their work in front of them on the table and then go around observing everyone else’s.
• Follow with a quick discussion.
