Icebreaker: What Are You Good At?

Purpose

This is an icebreaker that helps delegates to become more familiar with each other.

The aim is to systematically share information with a partner to maximise information transfer in a given time.

Objective

Share 10 things your do well with your partner.

What You Need

  • Papers

Setup

  • Divide the delegates to pairs. If you have an odd number of delegates use a group of 3.

Part 1:

  • Ask one person in each group to share 5 things they do well with their partner. These can be any skill, whether related work or hobby.
  • Ask groups to swap roles so the other person can share 5 things they do well.
  • Ask groups to go through a second round to identify 5 more things they do well so they end up with a total of 10.
  • Allocate 15 minutes for this part.

Part 2:

  • Now that the 10 skills have been identified, each person should score themselves from 1 to 5 on how good they are in that skill. The other person should record this on paper.
  • Allocate 5 minutes for this part.
  • Bring back everyone together.
  • Ask each person in each group to introduce the other person in their group to everyone else by stating the three things that their partner is very good at. It is the introducers’ choice to pick the skills to present and can be those that they are most impressed with or find unique.
