Has anyone read Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell here. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I think it is a MUST read for anyone who wants to understand how people succeed. His story telling is really  great and it captures the imagination.

I think this is a good book to recommend in motivation, goal setting and even coaching skills courses. It makes you feel that all you need to do is to keep doing what you like, look for opportunities and have an open eye for what comes your way. A lot of people seem to miss this which is probably why not everyone is an outlier. Well, at least by definition that will be the case anyway.

I think one way to use this in courses is to ask participants to read the book before coming to the course as a pre-assignment. During the course, you can ask everyone to present their views and have  a discussion around it. It could prove to be a good start. I yet have to try this, but I just thought I will share this with you and see what you think.

I was also very impressed by Outliers. I have read his other books too but I think so far this is his best work and can be easily related to training world. I was especially interested to learn about the underlying factors affecting and shaping successful people! The examples and studies in the book are also very enlightening to say the least.

Mr T, have you found a good way to use the outlier concepts to teach in a course. Telling stories is a great way to capture the attention of the participants, but you need to know all the details and spend quite some time on it. I wonder if an exercise can be made out of them? Ideas?
