Sometimes in a training, especially on topics such as motivation, decision making, coaching, goal setting and the like, you may need to explain that what we sense in the world may not be always real and our senses can fool us. In other words some things are illusions and we need to step back, look deeper to understand what is going on rather than deciding purely based on with what we sense.

A good example in history is observing the sun and making a conclusion that it rotates around the Earth. It is indeed a wrong conclusion because of the illusion of sun rotating around the Earth.

You can demonstrate this further with the following elegant tool or video in a training class. You can use the infamous Einstein's rotating head. Here is a video demonstrating the illusion.

The face simply follows you as you move around. Because we are not used to seeing a face from behind, the brain interprets the shadows as if they belong to a face that is looking at you as opposed to looking away.

You can also purchase the plastic  hollow face and take it with you to your class to impress your students even more. Make sure to follow this with discussions. It's a great opportunity to help people shift their views.

This is very useful Ehsan. Thanks for sharing. I think taking the plastic to the class is more impressive because students can see for themselves firsthand.

Great idea. I love it. I didn’t know anything about this. I am going to show it in my next class. Wonderful.

I have seen this before but in a different context. It was a room full of faces that followed you wherever you looked. It was quite creepy actually but it felt more like art than a training tool. Good idea for a training context though.
